FRENCH OFFICIAL STATEMENT. (Recd. noon.) PARIS, July 18. In a statement on the Algerian disturbances, last May, the Minister of the Interior (M. Tixier) said that Moslem Nationalist risings though serious had been grossly and systematically exaggerated by the enemies of France, both throughout Algeria and abroad. He added that French casualties are 880 killed and 150 wounded. Moslem casualties were 1500 according to a local French civilian estimate. but only 500 according to the local French military estimate. Fortyfour Moslem villages with a total population of under 3000 were bombed. Under 20 per cent, of the native populations directly or indirectly participated in the rising. French troops called in to restore order had not exceeded 10.000. Two thousand four hundred Moslem were arrested, and 44 so far had been sentenced to death, but the Ministry of Justice was ready to consider all appeals for clemency. ®
