A London cablegram announced ine death of Sir Edward Campbell, member of the House of Commons for Bromley, Kent. This will necessitate a bv-election if he is returned on July 26? The constituency is regarded as a safq Conservative seat.

The Dutch radio announced that Queen Wilhelmina has been suffering from acute illness of a lung for several days, but the illness has now taken a favourable course. It is believed, however, it will be some time before Her Majesty will be fully recovered from the effects of the disease.

Mr E. A. Whitlow, of Auckland, has been appointed to represent various railway organisations on the Government Railways Tribunal. It was announced to-day that he replaces Dr. W. B. Sutch, who has joined UNRRA in the South-west Pacific. Mr Whitlow is secretary of the Auckland Tramways Union. — P.A.

Mr. G. Hearn, who has been a member of the staff of the Stationmaster’s office at Greymouth for the past 21 years, left this morning on transfer to Ohakune. Yesterday afternoon, he was met by members of the staff on whose behalf the Stationmaster, Mr. A. W. I. Miller, made him a presentation of a suitcase, and extended to him best wishes in his new appointment. Mrs. Hearn will accompany Mr. Hearn to Ohakune.
