LEAGUE FOOTBALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The management committee o£ the West Coast Rugby League met last evening, Mr.’B. F. Connors presiding. A. S. Clark was granted a transfer from the Ngahere Club to Blackball subject to the approval of the Ngahere Club. Ngahere entered a challenge for the Senior Shield. It was decided to ask the Ngahere Club to lengthen the field at Ngahere to the correct distance if possible.

A donation from Mr. C. Mason was received with thanks.

It was reported that gate takings for the last week-end showed a general increase. .

Fixtures for Sunday next were arranged as follow:— Senior: Ngahere v. Runanga, Wingham Park, 2.45 (P. Sweetman); Brunner v. Marist, Wingham Park,’ No. 1, 1.30 (J. Quinn); Blackball v. Kohinoor at Blackball, 2.45 (A. Kennedy). Junior: Kumara v. Blackball, at Kumara, 2.15 (B. McGirr); Brunner v. Marist, at Brunner, 2.45 (F. Bernard); Runanga v. Kohinoor, at Runanga, 1.30 (C. K. Fisher). Third Grade: Runanga v. Blackball, at Blackball, 1.30 (J. Williams); Brunner, a bye. Fourth Grade: Blackball v. Brunner, at Brunner, 1.30 (W. Kerr); Marist v. Kohinoor, at Wingham Park, No. 2, 1.30 (W. Moore); Runanga, a bye.

MARIST CLUB’S SOCIAL The Marist Old Boys’ Rugby League Football Club tendered a social to members who have recently returned from overseas at the St. Columba Hall last evening. There were 140 members present. Toasts were honoured as follow: —The King; “Returned Men,” (proposed by B. Rochford and responded to by Messrs T. O’Connor, F. McGirr, J. Roberts, N. Adams and S. Knapp); “Marist Club” I proposed by Mr. S. Anisy and' reIsponded to by Mr. J. Gilbert (Presiident); “Clergy and Marist Brothers” | (Mr. W. Gilbert—Rev. Father'McCarthy and Rev. Brother Dominic); “Players and Supporters” (Rev. Brother Felix—Mr. Peter Coll); “Coach and Club Captain” (Mr. D. Watson—Rev. Brother Felix and Mr. J. Oakley); “West Coast Rugby League” (Mr. W. Meates senr.—Mr. B. F. Connors). Items were contributed by Rev. Father McCarthy, Rev. Brother Felix and Messrs R. Buchanan, J. Beban, Pat Coll and W; B. Hutton.

During the evening Mr. K. Stapleton, a member of the club who will leave next week for Invercargill, was presented with a fountain pen, the presentation being made by the President, Mr. J. Gilbert.
