HONEY FOR BRITAIN

500 TONS FROM N.Z

WELLINGTON, May 11. “Advice has just been received that Britain has asked New Zealand to provide a quantity of honey up to 500 tons for her essential food needs this year,” said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Roberts) to-night. “During the war years, it has not been possible, because of the strained shipping position, to forward honey to Britain, and I feel sure that the beekeepers of New Zealand will now want to do all they can to meet the request of the Mother Country. I therefoi’e appeal to all beekeepers, everywhere in New Zealand to forward to the Auckland branch of the Internal Marketing Division immediately all that quantity of honey required under the present regulations —that is 301 b a hive —and also aS much above this quantity as they are able to send. Undoubtedly, some beekeepers will wish to make their consignment as large as possible, and the Internal Marketing Division will, when requested, set aside an equal Quantity of honey above the normal 301 b a hive for export to Britain, and beekeepers who desire to folloyz this course should advise the Division of the consignment of their honey. This is an opportunity for the honey producers of New Zealand to meet a request from Britain made at such an appropriate time, as well as to reopen the export of our product to the English market,” concluded the Minister.
