ALUMINIUM HOUSES
RUGBY, May 10
Sir S. Cripps, Minister of Aircraft Production, disclosed to-day that Mr. Duncan Sandys, Minister of Works, had placed an order for fifty thousand temporary aluminium houses. “While; the development in the strength of aluminium and magnesium alloys has been very remarkable," he said, “there is still the huge field for fresh advances. Our superiority in the air in future will depend to no small extent on the ingenuity and patience with which we can by research and development keep ahead in this field of metallurgy.” PLANE CRASH. (Rec. 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, May 10. The Swedish radio stated that a four-engined British plane with a military crew of 20 crashed on the bank of the River Vermland, Southern Sweden, after hitting a tree. ‘ Four of the crew were drowned. Two were sent to hospital.
