WOMEN’S HOSPITAL
| AUCKLAND NEW PROJECT j AUCKLAND, April 19. I .A public appeal is to be made : shortly for £lOO,OOO for the purpose of i endowing a Cha.ir of Obstetrics and ! Gynaecology at the proposed new ' Auckland Hospital for women, says . Mr. P. Shaw, chairman of the comi mittee of Auckland business men, ! who have interested themselves in the project.
| “The decision to establish a women’s hospital in Auckland, specialisj ing in gynaecology and obstetrics ’ will be welcomed by the whole community,” says Mr. Shaw. “There is no such service in the North Island and ! what is available at Dunedin, although of excellent standard has for a number of years been inadequate as far as the rest of the Dominion is. concerned. It is felt the women of New Zealand arc* entitled to demand the highest possible standard of treatment. The provision of a women’s hospital at Auckland has the very close interest of a number of leading members of the medical fraternity in all parts of the Dominion. In particular, the New Zealand Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society has worked very hard to this end. The Government has already agreed to provide the hospital and equipment. It is because of the urgency of providing such service that it has been decided net to wait until the new hospital is built but to take steps immediately to ensure that a Professor of necessary standard and experience is appointed at the earliest date. It is gratifying to know we will have the support of all the women’s organisations throughout New Zealand, who recognise the important national functions of the hospital for women.”
