GENERAL SMUTS’ FORECAST
CAPETOWN, March 23
“The end of the war in Europe is at hand,” said General Smuts in a speech in the Senate. “This will mean a considerable change for the Union and its active participation, in the war. According to present planning the Union’s war production will tall off at least 50 per cent. “There will also be great changes on the fighting front. No man will be forced to go to the Far East, but a certain number of air squadrons will be sent, and probably small units of specialists.”
