BRITAIN’S SAVINGS.
LONDON, February 18. Disturbing facts about the savings of wage-earners in Britain are contained in the current bulletin of the Institute of Statistics, Oxford. Inquiry into figures of a nationally representative sample 0f.1153 workingclass families showed that 52 per cent, of families had either no savings or under £5O, and only 12 per cent, had savings of more than £2OO. The conclusion of the investigations, supported by research of other inquirers, is that the bulk of Britain’s working-class population has comparatively insignificant holdings of money savings.
