Mr. W. E. James left for Christchurch this, morning.

Mr and Mrs H. Mclntosh left for Christchurch this morning.

Mrs. R. and Miss R. Cottle, of Masterton, who have been visiting Greymouth, left this morning on return.

Mr. F. H. P. Miller, who has been relieving on the Bank of New Zealand staff, has returned to Christ-, church.

The District Traffic Manager, Railways Department, Christchurch, Mr. F. G. Clark, and the Resident Engineer, Greymouth, Mr. W. T. Langbein, left this morning for Nelson.

“Osservatore Romano” discloses that the Pope is suffering from catarrh of the throat, states a London cablegram. He will require some days’ rest for his voice after the cure which at present he is undergoing. The Pope continues to attend affairs of office.

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown, of Westport, celebrated their golden wedding yesterday, members of the family and friends being entertained. Mr. and Mrs. Brown, who were married at Westport in 1895 and have resided in the district since, received many messages of congratulation, including telegrams from the Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) and Lady Newall, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), and the Speaker of the Legislative Council (Mr. Fagan).
