HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. [OT’R OWX COHJIESrONDE.VT.] HOKITIKA, January 18. The Hokitika Borough Council met yesterday, the Mayor, Mr. A. R. Elcock presiding over the following members: Crs. H. E.Peart, S. G. Roberts, D. Pettigrew, L J. Preston, A. C. Armstrong, W. IL Stop forth and C. Caliari. Treasurer's Statement: Receipts £764/8/9, expenditure £lBl7/9/3. Accounts amounting to £612/9/1 were passed for payment. Mrs. Bae, of Livingstone St., waited on the Council, with the purpose of obtaining relief from flooding by water coming on to her property from the area at the rear.
The Foreman’s report was read and approved. The Sexton reported 10 interments for the month of December. It was decided to approach Dr. Childs, Superintendent of the Seaview Mental Hospital, with a view to having assistance with the maintenance of the Cemetery Hill Road. The question of a shelter shed at the cemetery was deferred. The Westland County Council wrote agreeing to increase its contribution from £5O to £ 150 per annum towards the maintenance of the cemetery providing the sexton is not taken from his work to carry out other Borough work. —The Council accepted this provision. It was resolved that the Reserves Committee hold a special meeting to draw up a comprehensive programme. Abbatoir Report: Stock slaughtered for the month of December, 21 cows, 22 heifers, 42 bullocks, 147 sheep, 183 lambs, nine pigs, one calf. Condemned nil collected for month amounted to £92/19/9. Fees collected for corresponding month last year £llO 1/9?

Campbell applied to instal septic tank on Section 795, Fitzherbert Street.—Granted, subject to health regulations. Mr J. A. Richards, Spencer Street, asked that the small open dram along the frontage of his property facing Spencer Street be covered in. —Referred to Foreman. The District Manpower Officer, Greymouth, advised that the employment of five married meh under Scheme 13 (authority 41/238) had been extended for a further period of 13 weeks. . Mr. E. R. P- Ferguson, Davie Street, in regard to the renewal of the bounary fence on the north side of his property adjoining the boundary of the Borough stables reserve, stated that he is prepared to pay half the cost of the south boundary of his property.—Referred to Foreman to estimate cost. . , Mrs. M. Tennant, Hampden Street, asked that existing 10ft street crossing (concrete pipes) be extended by two additional pipes and that she is prepared to find the labour if the Council supplies the _ pipes.—Applicant to pay cost of pipes.
