ENTERTAINMENTS

OPERA HOUSE— Finally To-night: “Passport to ..Destiny'* and “Rookies in Burma.” Saturday: “Home In Indiana.” “All the thrills of ‘Kentucky’ “All the magnificence of ‘Maryland’.” “A simply wonderful picture.” That’s the essence of the unanimous acclaim of all who have seen the new technncolour hit “Home in Indiana,” commencing at the Opera House to-mor-row, Monday and Tuesday. Featuring Walter Brennan, Lon McAllister, Jeanne Crain and Charlotte Greenwood and an outstanding supporting cast the film depicts the •exciting drama, romance and thrills of one of America’s great traditions. “Home In Indiana” tells its beautiful and exciting story of spirited youth, lovely women, fast horses and proud men against the brilliantly colourful background of country fairs and the great, “apple pie” country in the most dazzling beautiful technicolour ever seen. Walter Brennan gives his most outstanding character performance as “Thunder” Bolt, a proud horse trainer whose shattered dreams are revived by a young impetuous boy and a secret filly. “Home In Indiana” stands in a class by itself and is a delightful tonic for these times, that should not be missed. [REGENT THEATRE— To-night: “Thousands Cheer.” Here are just a few of the stars: Kathryn Grayson, Gene Kelly, Mary Astor, John Boles, Mickey Rooney, Eleanor Powell, Virginia O’Brien, Marsha Hunt, Judy Garland, Ann Sothern, Frank Morgan, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, Donna Reid. Then we have pleasure in introducing a great pianist, Jose Iturbi. His manipulation of the keys is something very worthy of note. The general plot of this feature is a romantic one, in that we have Kathryn, an army officer’s daughter, who undertakes a morale job at her father’s camp and falls in love with a circus performer. In the course of the film many venues are presented, and we venture to say that never has such a variety of talent been on exhibition, and a perfect entertainment will be had by all. Owing to the unusual length of this feature, matinees will commence at 2 p.m.
