The second day of the combined West port-Reef ton trotting meeting was held to-day. The weather was fine except for a light, drizzle which did not last long. The totalisator handled £17,014 for the day making £36 226 for the meeting, which is an increase on last year’s turnover of £1,170/10/-. . A feature of the racing was the win by Mae Wynne, a locally owned mare, from 144 yards behind. The same mare in a later race was penalised 24 yards to 132 yards, but trotted another great race to be beaten by a neck by Blackdale, to whom she was conceding 72 yards. Local horses scored well, as besides Mae Wynne (owned by Mr. W. H. Roche) Little Audrey (owned by Mr. R Powell), which paid over half a century, and Jack’s Treasure (owned by Walshe Bros.) won. Heaphy’s five-year-old trotting mare, Bingen’s Colleen, has been retired from racing, and will be mated with Jdsedale Dictator. Bingen’s Colleen had not been racing long, and won only one race. She raced unsuccessfully at the Westport meeting. AUCKLAND TROTS CLAREMORRIS WINS ‘AGAIN AUCKLAND, December 27. The Auckland Trotting Club’s Summer meeting opened to-day in fine weather, and with a good attendance. The track was in good order. Totalisator investments amounted to £135,883 (a record), compared with £123,434/1/- last year—an increase of £12,448/10/-. The Plotting Cup was run at a fast pace throughout, and the result provided a surprise Betty Boop, who was well placed all the way, winning from Lady Dawn, with Black Label third. The favourites, Hilda Potts and Volo Senwod (bracketed), Sea Born, and Catalpa, all failed. The winner paid more than a third of a century, and her stablemate, Gallant Maid, who won the previous race, returned more than half a century.
