LABOUR CONFERENCE

CLOSING RESOLUTIONS

(Rec. 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 15. The closing session of the Labour Party Conference unanimously adopted the Executive’s resolution urging State powers to acquire as rapidly as possible all agricultural land, and laying down the basis of compensation to owners. Another resolution urging provision for settlement of ex-servicemen into agriculture on a large scale was heavily defeated. One delegate pointed out that they did not want to see settled on the land a lot of inexperienced men who would be rapidly disillusioned. . The Conference, acting against the Executive’s recommendation, adopted a resolution sponsored by the National Union of Railwaymen advocating the establishment of an independent Indian National Government and release from imprisonment oi Indian political leaders. The resolution urged the immediate ending of the political deadlock by negotiations with all leaders of the Indian people, with a view to the formation of a responsible National Government to rally the entire population to the anti-Fascist cause. The Conference adopted the resolution by a large majority. , , The Conference ended with the singing of the Internationale and Auld Lang Syne. VICTORY* IN JAMAICA
