In extending a welcome to the subbranch ’ delegates ' the Chairman stressed the importance .of keeping in touch with headquarters in order to understand the work and objects of the Society and how to achieve them. Unfortunately the committee’ ‘at Moana ' had not been 'revived, due probably to the .difficulty in war-time of getting organisations established. The financial position disclosed in the reports was sound and although the object' Was not to’ build up large assets, the success of the Society’s work called for the expenditure of a considerable sum yearly, so that it was necessary to keep the funds built up. The health' of New Zealanders was not w.hat it ought to be and the evils "attaching to ill-health were a drag on communities. The Society’s aim w.as to build a nation of strong, healthy people. Tlic Greymouth Committee, stated the Chairman, had decided to make an effort to purchase a car, and as the sub-branches would be required to finance thetir districts’ quota to the expenses, it had been decided to get delegates’ views on the subject. The ■levies would be .made on a mileage basis. Though the present was a bad time to have to’ purchase, he considered it would be unwise to buy a second-hand car. The delegates present were unanimous that it was desirable for the Society to procure a' car, and considered their districts would be prepared to co-operate. After consideration of correspondence from Dominion ’Headquarters explaining the methods adopted in other branches for 'financing running expenses, the following motions were passed:—“That a member of the. Council be requested to visit the area in February to discuss with subbranches the desirability of purchasing a car”; and “That, this meeting commends to sub-branches the matter of purchasing a car and asks that consideration be held over until a member of the Council visits the area' and explains the system in operation in other branches.” The annual report and balancesheet were received and adopted, on the motion of Mesdames Kitchingham and Timlin. 5 ' The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs F.
