RACING AND TROTTING

MEETINGS TO COME.

November 11: Napier Park. November 11: Avondale. TROTTING. Nov. 11:—Metropolitan. Joan Conquest: The pacing mare, Joan Conquest, is now wholly owned by Mr. H. W. Drewery, J. B. Pringle having sold his half-share.

Cup Riders: Riders for some of the New Zealand Cup candidates are: G. Hughes, Foxleap; C. T. Wilson, Foxhaven; H. N. Wiggins, Kevin; and B. S. Wilson, Arustra.

Doubtful: Battledress can be regarded as a doubtful starter in the New Zealand Cup. L. J. Ellis, who was to have ridden him, is now without a mount. Ellis will ride High Play in the Stewards’ Handicap.

Findon’s Price: The “Dominion” says that “it’ was a colossal last minute plunge on Indian Sport that enabled Findon to pay a remarkable price for a form horse” at the Napier Park meeting.

Integrity’s Chance: Integrity, giving away 36 yards in the Ollivier Handicap, may be the favourite for this race. His Cup running suggests his being a winner, but Cabin Boy may be the one to be considered.

Jimmy Wharton: The stipendiary stewards hgve been instructed by the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association to watch the running of Jimmy Wharton closely in future. This trotter was involved in an accident at a recent meeting at Addington.

Stuart Lee: Stuart Lee, the crack pacer from Auckland, started 9-10 in the betting in the Canterbury Handicap on the first day at Addington when he gave away 48 yards. He is likely to start at a much shorter price in the William Hayward Handicap on Saturday next, when he will start from the limit of a 4.34 class in the William Hayward Handicap.

Will Go Far: Emulous followed up his impressive victory in a novice event at Rangiora on Labour Day by winning the Metropolitan Challenge Stakes in fine style at .Addington last week. He is a good-looking four-year-old horse by Jack Potts from Light Wings, which is also the dam of Lightning Lady. Emulous is trained at Rakaia by W. K. Tatterson, and is likely to be a good winner.

N.Z. Derby: There .are 14 horses still in the New Zealand Derby, and while some critics are inclined to underrate the performance of Slavonic against older and more experienced pacers in the Challenge Stakes last week he should still be a staunch favourite. Slavonic ran a really good race, and while the Auckland pacer, Bexley’s Pride, may offer stern opposition, he is likely to be and is entitled to be a good favourite.

Sold For Tasmania: Huguenot, in foal to Springfield Globe, has been purchased from the estate of the late T. J. Atkinson by F. J. Smith, who was acting on behalf of the Tasmanian breeder, Mr. E. Tatlow.. Huguenot was a good winner, and ended up with a mile and a half record of 3.14 3-5. She is by Grattan Loyal from Hughenden Queen, and comes of the same maternal family as the dual New Zealand Cup winner, Lucky Jack; also Great Logan and other good winners.

Three-year-olds In Stewards: Three-year-olds have fared well in the Stewards’ Handicap. In the recorded results of the race since 1890, three-year-olds to the number of 16 have succeeded, their names and weights being as follows: —Clanranald 8.5, Stepniak 7.10, Golden Fleece 7.4, Pampero 7.4; Royal Artillery 7.10, Vladimir 7.82, Machine Gun 8.9, Gold Crest 8.3, Bon Reve 8.6, Stardancer 6.7, Warstep 6.13£, Eulalie 8.1, Autopay 7.2, Paper Slipper 8.5, Beaulivre 8.10, and Enrich 7.13.
