OVERSEAS MEN’S BRIDES. (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) LONDON. November 7. It .is estimated that 20,000 Dominion trooos married English women during their stay in this country. This was announced - when the Commons recently passed a Bill allowing English women who married men in the Dominions or foreign forces, to take <T ; ••■e proceedings here, instead of in the courts of the countries where their husbands are domiciled. OVERSEAS PRESS. Newspapers from the Dominions can now be read throughout Britain. They are the latest feature in the “Daily Express” reading rooms, which have been established throughout the country.' It is stated that arrangements’have been macle for these rooms to receive a regular supply of the principal newspapers from Canada. Australia. New Zealand, India and South Africa. Britain's chief censor, Rear Admiral G. P. Thompson, has decided views on the censorship. He described it recently as “An ugly thing accepted only as an unfortunate necessity.” He'described the free Press as one of the liberties to which British people were most strongly attached, and said the problem had been solved by compromise of voluntary censorship, censors and Press co-operating to prevent. publication of information that will be of value to the enemy for the prosecution of the war. FOOTWEAR SHORTAGE Britain is reported to be facing a footwear shortage and manufacturers express the opinion that unless official attention is given to the situation soon, hardships may result. The causes are lack of labour and material.
