PLANE CRASH

(Reed. 12.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 6. An Australian National Airways freight plane carrying five hundred gallons of petrol crashed when taking off at Mascot aerodrome during a storm last- evening. Although -petrol showered over the damaged plane, it did not catch fire and the crew escaped. None of the crew was injured but Squadron-Leader Michael Vaughan, of Sydney, who was a passenger had a leg fractured. A fiftvmile_an_hour wind was blowing when - rhe plane took off. It was flying fast when it struck an embankment. Several fire brigades were called out because of fire danger from spilt petrol.
