Rev. V. L. Leaning left on Thursday for Nelson, where he was called owing- to a bereavement in the family. Mrs.' J. Panckhurst presided at the monthly meeting of the Reefton Women’s Institute. Mrs. R. Yellowees presented ■ the report of the half vearly Council meeting. Matron Whisker of Reefton Hospital wrote thanking the Institute for traycloths and hot water bag covers presented to the hospital. The roll call for the meeting was “How to make the best use of fish.” The monthly competition winners were: For fancywork, Mrs. Miller 1, Mrs Eklund 2. Best bunch of spring flowers, Miss Gibson 1, Mrs. Panckhurst 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Hobbs and Fattorini. The Practical Examinations of Trinity College of Music were conducted at Reefton by Mr. Bernard Page. The following students were successful: Associate diploma: Miss Jean Duff, 85 marks. Higher Local: Barbara Ross, 91, Margaret Wicken 86. Intermediate: Joy Maindonald 77. Junior Division: Pauline Panckhurst 80, Ealine Nicholls 79, Nessie Hamill 70. Preparatory. Jennifer Buist 80, Valerie Maindonald (violin) 75, Margaret Hocking (violin) 71. First Steps: Valma Nicholls (violin) 85, Imelda Coghlan 75, Joy Curtis 72. Initial Meredith Milne 93. The Reefton district and Buller soldiers of the 4th Reinforcements, 2nd N.Z.E.F., who arrived home by Thursday morning’s rail-car, were welcomed home at Reefton railway station by friends and citizens. The Chairman of the Reefton Patriotic Committee (Mr. J. Discacaiti), Messrs W. Gore Porter (President), and J. Cutbush (secretary), Reefton Returned Services Association and C. A. Belcher (County Clerk) gave them an informal welcome. The Reefton men who . returned were Lieutenant A. T. Watson, Sapper Bell and Private Somerville. Mr. F. W. Archer, chairman, presided at a meeting of the executive committee of the Reefton sub-centre Order of St. John. He reported that Mr, J. W. Osborne, jnr., had volunteered to be on call as driver foi the motor ambulance, until a regular roster of volunteer drivers could be arranged. The Chairman reported that a supply of stretchers for practice for squads would be available on loan from the Hospital, and the necessary number of blankets could also be borrowed from the same source for practice work. Matron Whisker and a qualified Sister from the Hospital would be available on call for cases to be transported by the ambulance until suitable arrangements could be made for assistants from the Reefton sub-centre to work with the ambulance.
