BOOKMAKING CONVICTIONS

TWO MEN REMANDED

CHRISTCHURCH, November 3. Arthur Leonard Albertson pleaded not guilty when charged before Mr Justice Northcroft in the Supreme Court to-day with carrying on the business of a bookmaker. The jury retired at 12.30 p.m. and at 3 p.m. returned with a verdict of guilty and added the following rider: “That this jury considers the present law regarding bookmakers should be amended.” Albertson was remanded till Monday for sentence. Leslie James Coxon pleaded guilty to a charge of betting with a bookmaker. His Honor said he would postpone sentence until Monday. Coxon was released on bail on his own recognisance of £5O.
