DOCTOR SHOT
“TAKEN FOR A RIDE”
SYDNEY, Nov. 2.
The attempted murder of a wellknown Macquarie Street .specialist, Dr. Reginald Stuart Jones, aged 42, is the latest Sydney news sensation. Dr. Jones was shot through a lung early on Wednesday morning after he had been “taken for a ride” in gangster fashion. Following the shooting he. was left on the doorstep of a private hospital. His dying depositions were taken later.
To-day two men, Clifford Tasman Thompson, aged 32, engineer, and Leslie Dunn, aged 38, clerk, were charged with having shot at Dr. Jonea with intent to murder him. Two other men are being sought by the police. While Thompson and Dunn were being escorted from a special Court held at Dr. Jones’ bedside they were attacked by two other men who were to-day remanded on charges of riotous behaviour and obstructing the police. Bail of £4O each was allowed.
The police prosecutor said that many special circumstances were involved in the shooting of Dr. Jones, who is himself the subject of police prosecution.'The case has been remanded. Dr. Johes is in a critical condition, but is given a fighting chance to live.
