MASS-MURDER TRIAL
(Rec. 11.10 a.m.) PARIS, Nov. 2. Dr. Marcel Petiot, who is accused of murdering more than 50 persons in his house in the Rue le Sueur, has been arrested in a Paris suburb. He was disguised as a captain in the F.F.I. The police state that Petiot confessed he “executed” several persons, but all were members of the Gestapo. The police allege Petiot killed the victims who had.given him money, believing he would help them, to escape from the occupied zone. The Paris radio says the French Government has taken over Marshal Petain’s country estate in Southern France as a children’s home.
The Exchange Telegraph Agency’s correspondent says it is understood that the French Government has given permission for the French Communist leader, Maurice Thorez, to return, to France.
