GERMAN RETREAT
RUGBY, November 2. British patrols wasted time before pushing on through Salonika to the north, reports a correspondent at Allied Headquarters. For the first time in Greece, our forces were able to get ahead of the retreating Germans in sufficient strength to ambush the enemy. Our troops are remaining in close contact with the enemy in the last stretch before the Jugoslav frontier. The Germans are carrying out large-scale executions of hostages as they leave towns and villages. Greek guerrillas swooping from the mountains are continuing to take heavy toll of the enemy.
