RUHR AND BERLIN LONDON. Nov. 1. Strong forces of Halifaxes. tonight. attacked through cloud the industrial centre of Oberhausen, in the Ruhi\ Almost simultaneously Mosouitoes attacked Cologne.' says the Air Ministry. Other Mosquitoes bombed Berlin. In the afternoon a force of Lancasters, escorted by Spitfires and Mustangs, attacked other Ruhr objectives. American Thunderbolts and Mustangs escorting heavy bombers over Germany, to-day, destroyed three jet-propelled Messerschmitt 262’5. .This is the greatest number yet shot down in single combat. Every Fortress and Liberator of a force of about 300 raiding the syn- 1 thetic oil plant at Gelsenkirchen and the railway yards at Hamm and Coblenz returned. One is missing of 250 escorting fighters. The Air Ministry has announced the following recent adjustment in the direction of the Allied Air Forces: The- New Zealander, Air Marshal Sir Arthur Coningham, assumes responsibility for the administrative control of all R.A.F. units in North-west Europe and becomes Air Officer Commanding the Second Tactical Air Force.
