REHABILITATION

DISABLED EX-SERVICEMEN

AUCKLAND, November 1.

[■ Following the protest, yesterday. _ by trainees and employees at the ’ Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establish-ment League’s factory in Newton, it , is understood urgent instructions were ; received this morning by the Works I Department to the effect that the R.N.Z.A.F. establishment at Parnell would be vacated with all possible speed and the necessary alterations to the building to accommodate the disabled ex-servicemen would be commenced forthwith. The men returned to work in the dilapidated ; factory to-day. A practical demonstration of his ' desire to help ex-servicemen was made by an Aucklander, who has of- ■ fered his well-established brassfounding and fitting business for the payment of only the paid-up capital. The business is capable of substantial development and has £ 1000 worth of orders awaiting fulfilment. The owner, who is in failing health, suggests that the business be taken by tour returned servicemen. The statement by Mr Skinner at Christchurch, yesterday, that returnea men are being squeezed out by competition is not borne out in Auckland, where the business community has established its own rehabilitation centre, which under the title of the Services Commercial Contact Centre works in co-operation with the Rehabilitation Department and the State Advances Department.
