PIG MEAT PRICES

WELLINGTON, October 31.

Buying schedules for pig meats during the 1944-45 season were ;announced to-day by the Minister, of Agriculture and Marketing (Mr Roberts). The schedule and conditions which will operate are as follow. —Firstly, the schedule now operating for porkers and baconers will continue in force in respect of all pigs purchased up to and including Saturday, November 18. Secondly, from and including Monday, November 20, Summer, prices for pig meats will become operative. These Summer prices will represent an advance of one farthing per lb. on the Summer schedule as set out in the Gazette notice dated May 25. The new Summer prices will therefore be 7|d for first grade baconer (1211 b to 1751 b weight range) and 7 : ;d for first grade porkers (601bs to 1201bs), with corresponding adjustments in other weights and grades of baconers and porkers. There will be no increase for choppers. Thirdly, South Island prices will correspondingly be adjusted. The Minister said that this arrangement represented an over-all increase of one farthing per lb on pig meats in addition to the halfpenny rise granted last May.
