BOXING

CALTAUX v. PATRICK

(N.Z.P.A. Special Australian Correspondent)

(Recd. 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 1. Bookings for the fight between Caltaux and Patrick on Saturday night are a record. It is expected that thousands will be unable to gain admission. Caltaux who has eased un in his preparations, faces the hardest match of his career.

In forty-one bouts Vic Patrick, aged twenty-four, holder of both Australian lightweight and welterweight titles, has never had a points decision given against him, and has never been knocked out. He has been twice defeated—once on a foul and once when he had to retire with an injured arm.

Rugged Caltaux, who tips the scale at 10.5, will have seven lb. weight advantage over his opponent. Caltaux’s strenuous preparations for the bout have amazed "Sydney boxing critics. The New Zealander has boxed daily an average of about eighteen rounds against a variety of sparring partners. Alan Westbury, leading challenger for Patrick’s welterweight title is likely to be matched with the winner of Saturday’s bout. Patrick will take the ring a firm favourite but Caltaux’s weight advantage, aggressiveness and powerful punching ability could cause a surprise.
