PRISONERS OF WAR
MAIL DELAYS FROM GERMANY
RUGBY. October 30
The British Post Office stales that military operations on the Continent necessarily had- a disturbing effect on prisoner of war mail services to and from Germany, as those formerly relied on the German air service for conveyance of letters between Germany and Lisbon. The liberation of France naturally made it difficult for the Germans to maintain this air service. While it has been possible to find other and more direct routes for outward letters, both air and surface mail, to Germany’, and these services have thus been maintained without appreciable breaks, and .generally with improved efficiency, the maintenance of the homeward service haS been more difficult, and gaps in arrival in Britain of letters have been much longer. The problem continues to be tackled, energetically, and it is hoped there will be an early improvement. Meanwhile, delay in receipt of letters should not give rise to undue anxiety.
