RETURNED SERVICEMEN’S ASSN
GREY BRANCH
(By “Mackay.”)
The membership of the Greymouth R.S.A. is increasing daily. With only half the financial year gone a record has been established, the membership now being 447 members, which includes apnroximately 190 members from this'war. It has been brought to the notice of the Executive chat certain personnel from the Pacific area are not aware that they are eligible for membership. All men from the Pacific area are entitled to < become members, whether on leave or not, and will be wecomed.. The drive for funds for the proposed club rooms far exceeds the expectations of the Executive, and before the New Year it is hoped to have something definite to put before a general meeting. The Digger session heard from many broadcasting stations throughout Australia and New Zealand, has been discussed by the Association, and a committee has been appointed with a view to having such a session broadcast from the Greymouth station.
The Returned Soldiers’ Ball is to be revived after a lapse of many years. The first function will be held on November 28. The President (Mr O. McLean) is again active after a lengthy illness The treasurer (Mr Noel Messenger) has joined the ranks of the married, and has left for Wellington. His brother, Mr Max Messenger, a 19147 18 veteran, was a visitor to Greymouth for the wedding. There are several members from this war and the Great War at present in hospital. Good reports are to hand concerning E. T. Shannahan and D. D. Atkinson, both men from this war.
