PLANE CRASHES AT SEA
FOUR MEN MISSING WELLINGTON, October 31. . An R.N.Z.A.F. Ventura, on a transit flight from New Zealand to Espiritu Santo, was forced down at sea on Saturdaj' afternoon and four of its occupants are missing, believed killed. Four others were picked up by a ship and taken to Espiritu Santo. Those missing are: Warrant Officer J. D. Smith, (wife, Mrs C. M. Smith, Kaitangata); Sergeant R. J. Bryant (father, Mr C. Bryant, Hastings)’ Sergeant H. A. Bayliss (father, Mr A; S. Bayliss, Palmerston North); Leading Aircraftman K .C. Bunting (wife, Mrs D. Bunting, Auckland). The following men. only one of whom was injured, were rescued and taken to the R.N.Z.A.F. Base Hospital: Pilot Oflficei’ Alfred Chisholm Hawkins (Palmerston North), Warrant Officer Donald Anderson Stout (Christchurch), Warrant Officer Harold Edward Small (Christchurch), Corporal Peter Duncan Patton (Invercargill). Corporal Patton was slightly injured. '
