CAMPAIGN IN ITALY

BAD WEATHER CONTINUES

LONDON. October 29

Bad weather is still hampering operations in Italy. Allied activity is confined to patrolling. Polish troops on the Adriatic sector have entered the town ol Predappio, which is Muss&lini’s birthplace. The Germans still hold the northern part of the town.

An Allied Mediterranean communicnie says that extremely bad weather in the last 48 hours has brought operations in Italy virtually to a standstill.

On Thursday the cruiser Aurora and the escort aircraft-carrier Emperor and the destroyers Turian and Tepcott bombarded the island of Melos in the Aegean. The island of Piscopi, northwest of Rhodes, was occupied that night by troops landed from the cruiser Sirius.. Adverse weather on Friday restricted the Mediterranean air forces to routine patrols and attacks on enemy communications. Fighter bombers attacked bridges in northern Italy. Three aircraft are missing. “Fifth Army tanks have entered Rocca San Casciano, 15 miles from Forli,” says the Exchange Telegraph’s correspondent in Italy. Reuter’s correspondent says the Virtual halt in Allied activity caused by rain, gales, and floods has given the Germans an opportunity to reinforce their defences south-west and south of Bologna. To-day’s Allied communique from Italy says: Land activity has been confined to patrolling. Air operations are restricted by bad weather. Small forces of heavy bombers attacked an aircraft factory at Lagenfurt. Other ’planes attacked railways in the Po Valley, and shipping on the Dalmatian coast. A small force of bombers on Saturday night attacked targets in Southern Germany. One is missing. POLISH SUCCESS. (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 29. Polish troops, after a three miles push through the mountains nine miles south of Forli, captured the little township of Predappio.
