SPANISH REPUBLICANS

CIVIL WAR PLANS

LONDON, October 26

A British United Press correspondent says: Colonel Paz, who is leader of Spanish guerrillas in South-west-ern France, at a press conference in Paris, said that the Spanish National Union (representing members of Spanish Republican parties now in France) will fight General Franco by sending guerrillas across the border to co-operate with Spanish forces of the interior. A combined force would proclaim a republic and establish a genuinely Republican Government which would grant a wide amnesty and restore statutes which gave home rule to Catalans and Basques. A Republican Supreme Junta in Madrid had a great deal of support inside the Spanish regular army. A Wilhelmstrasse spokesman stated, according to the Berlin radio, that he was shocked at events in Spain, where the situation was very, grave and regular battles were occurring on Spanish soil. “If this continues the Spanish Government will have to issue regular war communiques.”
