NEW RATION BOOKS

REGISTRATION OF CONSUMERS Every ration book must be registered with a retailer for sugar and for butter before 10th November, 1944. To Register for Sugar: Fill in the sugar counterfoil at the top of Sheet 2 of the ration book with the name and address of the holder. Take the ration book to the retailer from whom you wish to buy your sugar for the next six months. The retailer will cut out the counterfoil and enter his name in the space “sugar” on the inside of the front cover of the book. You will then be registered with the retailer for sugar and must continue to buy your sugar from that retailer for the next six months. To Register for Butter: Fill in the butter counterfoil at the top of Sheet 2 of the ration book with the name and address of the holder. Take the ration book to the retailer from whom you wish to buy your butter for the next six months. The retailer will cut out the counterfoil and enter his name in the space “Butter” on the inside of the front cover. You will then be registered with the retailer for butter and must continue to buy your butter from that retailer for the next six months. You may register with different retailers for butter and for sugar if you so desire. To Register for Priority Eggs: Egg coupons are contained in the books issued to children from 6 months to 5 years of age (one sheet) and in the supplementary ration book issued to expectant mothers (two sheets). They are to be used only in the areas where priority egg rationing is in force (most of the larger cities and towns). Instructions to Retailers: All previous registrations are automatically cancelled with the expiry of the food coupons in the old book. No sugar or butter may be supplied to a consumer until the consumer is registered. The procedure is the same as last year. Consumers are required' to write- name and address on the sugar and butter counterfoils and take the book to the retailer. The retailer will cut out the counterfoil, enter his name and address in the appropriate space on the inside front cover of the ration book and note the ration book number, the consumer’s name and the name of the commodity on his register. The retailer will forward the counterfoils to his local Rationing Officer under cover of a declaration not later than the 11th. November, 1944. Establishments and institutions securing supplies on .permit from wholesale sources are required to carry out a registration of their permanent residents and to complete a new register in the same manner as retailers. Transfer of Registrations: i Transfers after Ist. November will not be permitted unless they are necessary on account of change of locality or the closing down or change of ownership of a retail establishment. Transfers .necessary for these reasons will be effected as at present by the use of the special forms provided. These forms are secured by the consumer from his new retailer. Special cases may arise where transfers are essential for other reasons but in all such cases application is to be made in the first instance to a rationing officer. Use of Emergency Coupons and what to do when they run out: Emergency coupons for sugar and butter are provided for on Sheet 1 < in the ration book.
