The following officials were elected at a meeting of the executive of the Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club: — Starter, Mr I. Steel; marksmen, Rev. Hoddinott, Messrs T. Power, M. Elder; track judges: Messrs T. Blackie, K. Horrack, E. Panckhurst, Rev. Bro. Fabian; field judges: Messrs H. Clifford, A. M. Jamieson, W. Dove; timekeepers: Messrs A. Grogan, J. Steel; results steward: Mr L. Mills; announcer: Mr S. McDonnell. An offer by the Greymouth Highland Pipe Band to play at certain sports meetings was accepted .with thanks. •Mr J. B. Bluett, who represented the club at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Centre and the New Zealand A. A. Asociation, reported on those meetings, and stated that steps had been taken to arrange a visit by Canterbury athletes early next- year. It was decided to approach the broadcasting authorities with a view to having talks on athletics broadcast from Station 3ZR. It was resolved that the season open at Greymouth on November 7 with an evening meeting at Victoria Park. BOWLING The opening of the season for the Karoro Women’s Bowling Club took place yesterday afternoon, there being a large attendance, including visitors from the Runanga and Blackball Clubs and Greymouth and Karoro Men’s Clubs who were welcomed by. Mrs S. Peek. Mr J. M. Bunt, president of the Men’s Club, opened the season, Mrs Bunt rolling tip the first kitty and Mr J. E. Stokes of the Centre, delivering the first bowl. Friendly matches were enjoyed. GOLF. The mid-monthly medal match for women will be played on Saturday or, if wet, on Sunday. Players are to arrange scorers. BOXING. SYDNEY, October 26. Vic. Caltaux, the New Zealand welterweight boxing champion, who is preparing for his match on November 4 with the Australian champion, Vic. Patrick, is regarded by boxing critics here as one of the hardest workers ever seen in the Sydney gymnasium. Yesterday he boxed with five sparring partners. One was Joe Hall who fougnt in New Zealand.
