F/O. F. N. SHALLCRASS

Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs F. W. Shallcrass, Greymouth, of the death, while on operations, of their son, Flying Officer F. N. (Dick) Shallcrass. Born in Greymouth 29 years ago F/O. Shallcrass was educated at the Grey Main and. Timaru High _ Schools. Always interested in flying, he was one of the original active members of the Grey Aero • Club, and before the local ’drome was constructed trained and qualified at Hokitika as a pilot. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in September, 1939, and left for England in June, 1940, as a navigator. He was stationed for some time at the Shetland Isles,, with a torpedo squadron, and while.' there took part in the Commando raid, on Vaagso. Finishing his tours of operations, he was sent to Canada: and qualified as a pilot. At the time: of his death he was with a New Zealand Squadron flying Mosquitos im the 2nd Tactical Air Force operating: over Germany. In July, 1942, he married Miss Anne Bisset, of Crathie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His funeral took place after a service in the Crathie Church.
