Mrs. E. Martyn, Murray Street, has been advised that her son, Flying Officer Leslie Arthur Martyn, who is serving with the R.A.F. in England, has been promoted to Flight Lieutenant.

Miss M. Harris, who has been on the staff of the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth for the .past two years, has resigned her position to enter the nursing profession. The resignation will take effect from the end of the present month.

Mr. S. T. Smith, of the surveying staff of the State Mines Department, Dunollie, left this morning, on transfer to Ohura. He was farewelled yesterday by members of the staff at Dunollie and was presented with a brief case, the presentation being made by Mr. J. Hadcroft.

At a congregational gathering in St. John’s Presbyterian Hall, last evening, a presentation of an “envelope” was made by Rev. T. G. Campbell to Mr J. Pearson, church treasurer for 14 years, who has retired. Ocasion was also taken to bid farewell to Mr G. G. Chisholm, Mrs and Miss Chisholm, who have been actively connected with the church for the past five years. Group Captain K. L. Caldwell, M.C., D.F.C. and Bar, who has been officer commanding the R.N.Z.A.F. station at Wigram for the last two years, is to be posted to other duties shortly. His successor will be Group Captain C. E. Kay, M.8.E., D.F.C., who formerly commanded No. 75 (N.Z.) Bomber Squadron of the Royal Air Force, and has been stationed in the North Island since his return to the Dominion. Advice of his appointment to the Organisation for National Development as legal adviser to the New Zealand Town Planning Board, and as assistant to Mr J. W. Mawson, Director of Town Planning, has been .received by Mr John Cox, of Auckland. For some years before the war Mr Cox was a partner in an Auckland legal firm, and for the last three years has been attached to Northern Military District Headquarters. He recently qualified as a legal associate member of the Town Planning Institute, England, and has been u student of town planning lor some voai-Q P A
