RACING AND TROTTING

MEETINGS TO COME. September 30: Ohinemuri. September 30: Hawke’s Bay. TROTTING. Sept. 30:—Methven. Oct. 7: —New Brighton. Oct. 21, 23:—Greymouth. Oct. 21, 23:—Auckland. Overdue: Trueway scored an overdue win for Mr A. Louisson and his trainer, F. D. Jones. He is a brother to Serenata and Representative, and although never likely to reach the heights attained by his wellperformed relations, his success suggested more successes for him over middle distances.

Ready to Win: The Irish Lancer gelding Olga’s Choice, owned by Mr A. Kyle, formerly of Greymouth, went close to making a big return on Saturday at Geraldine. This promising stayer is trained by V. A. Lee at Riccarton, and on Saturday’s running should not be hard to place.

Three-quarter Pace: Findon had a comparatively weak field to beat in the Geraldine Cup, and the time for the mile and a quarter, 2.8 4-5, was not fast for the state of the track, but at no stage did he appear to be going at more than three-quarter pace, and was actually down to a canter at the post. Findon will be a short-priced favourite again in any races he contests at Trentham.

Death of Takuta: The Croupier filly, Takuta, fell when less than two furlongs from the post in the Raukapuka Handicap at Orari on Saturday, and died within a few minutes. Takuta, who was owned by her breeder, Miss H. B. West, was trained by F. Chistmas, and had shown promise in her six starts without getting into the money.

Kindergarten: L. J. Ellis has arranged to attend the Hawke’s Bay meeting at Hastings next Saturday to do some riding for Mr E. N. Fitzgerald, whose representatives will include Kindergarten’s three-year-old half-brother Golden Souvenir, who claims Lang Bian as his sire. There is a possibility that Ellis will have the future training of Kindergarten and Golden Souvenir, and that he will bring the pair back to Riccarton next week.

Wil! Win More: War Form seems headed for much better company. She outstayed Traverse after $ bitter contest over two miles at Ashburton in June and at Geraldine on Saturday she came away from Bonny Bridge in the last furlong of the Orari Trot. War Form has the breeding to carry her a long way, for she is by U. Scott from Erin’s Pointer, who descends from a line of good winners, including Colonel Grattan.

Well-bred Juveniles: 'l’he first hvo-ycm-old event of the trotting season is the Great Northern Stakes, to bo run at Auckland curly in February, and already there are good reports of a bay colt by Springfield Globe from Lilian Bond, trqined by R. B. Berry, and a candidate for this event. Berry also has a colt by the same sire from Betty Wrack; and a full sister to Bohemian, who won the race last year. F. J. Smith, the leading Auckland trainer, has a highly-lhought-of coll by Raider (a two-minute American pacer) front Belle Logan (dam o'' Logan Derby, 2.4), engaged; also a filly by Raider from Ayr (darn of Springfield Globe). Both these candidates of Smith’s’were bred in Tasmania by Mr E. Tallow, who imported Raideiual a big figure.
