HOKITIKA, September 25. At the invitation, of the Hokitika Business Men’s Association a number of friends met to bid farewell to Mr. H. C. Rowe (Postmaster for the past five years) on his transfer to Petone and Mr. H. F. Cooke (Manager of the Bank of New South Wales for 19 years) on his leaving for New Plymouth.

Mr. W. H. Stopforth eulogised the work of the two gentlemen. Other speakers were Messrs C. H. Gtithrey, D. Friedlander, N. Griffin, and A. W. Walters.

The Mayor, Mr. A. R. Elcock, made the presentations which took the form of wallets of notes.

The recipients suitably replied. Occasion was also made to welcome Mr. Cooke’s successor Mr. A. McFarlane.
