PILOT KILLED. WELLINGTON, September 22. Flying Officer Philip Robert Colfox Clark, of Auckland, lost his life in an aircraft accident about 9.25 a.m. to-day. He was the pilot of a fighter which, while climbing shortly alter taking off from Ohakea Air Force station, was seen to become out of control. The pilot abandoned the aircraft, but his height was insufficient to allow his parachute to open. His father is Mr. B. E. Clark, of Kohimarama, Auckland.

MINER KILLED WHANGAREI, Sept. 22. Struck and buried by a fall of coal when working about 20 chains underground in the Kamo mine this morning, a miner died before admission to cne wnangarei Hospital. He was Henry John Dobson, 57, married, of Wnangarei. He was working with another miner in extracting pillars of coal wiien he was almost completely buried by a fall of two tons. ±jobson was dug out alive but unconscious, ana was dead on arrival at die hospital.

MOTORING TRAGEDY ' MASTERTON, Sept. 21.

One man died in hospital and four were injured when a car struck the Pariwhaiti stream bridge eight miles from Masterton late last night. They were:—

WHANGAREI, September 22.

On the casting vote of the ci.airman the Mangonui Hospita i Beard decided yesterday to invoke, section 31 of the Hospital and Charitable Insiitions Act, 192 G, by requesting the Minister of Finance to envert funds from the Mangonui County Council sufficient to-cover ccnivibutions to hospital maintenance aue from the Council. This action was rendered necessary by the Council’s refusal to include in the general rates struck this year the Hospital Board’s levy on the County of £4750, of which two instalments ol £949 each were to have been paid in July and September. The procedure which the Mangonui Hospital Board has adopted was set out by the Minister of Health in a letter to the County Council received at its meeting the previous day. Now working on an overdraft ot £2OOO, the Board has applied to its bankers for an overdraft of £6OOO for the quarter ending December. REPATRIATED PRISONERS WELLINGTON, September 23. The Prisoners of War Inquiry Office Headquarters advises it is now possible to send comforts and parcels lo prisoners of war, to be delivered when, the men are released, and artive in England. The parcels should be addressed care of the High Commissioner for New Zealand, .415 Strand, London, and do not require ’. special tie-on label, as they will not be censored at the prisoner-of-war packing depots. Letters for the prisoners concerned should be addressed to the last address given by the prisoner himself.
