A London cablegram announced the death of Rt. Rev. W. F. WentworthShields, formerly Bishop of Armidale (Australia). He was born in 1867.

Mr T. P. Sinnott, postman attached to the chief Post Office, Greymouth, has been transferred to a similar position at Runanga.

A London cablegram stated that the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester’s son has been registered at Northampton. The names chosen are Richard Alexander Walter George.

The death has occurred in Christchurch, following an operation, of Mr. F. Musson, of Karamea, a prominent member of the Farmers’ Union on the West Coast. Mr. Musson had been in ill-health for, a considerable time.

The death occurred at Whangayei, last evening, of Mrs. Janie _ Bird, widow of Mr. Frank Bird a pioneer Magistrate and Warden on the West Coast, aged 84. Mrs. Bird, who was born in Scotland, came to the West Coast as a child with her parents, first residing at Okarito about 1868, and she had continued to reside on the Coast till about 20 years ago. when she moved to North Auckland. Mrs. Bird, who had been in failing health for about twelve months, is survived by three sons, Mr. Frank Bird, formerly Registrar of the Supreme Court, Greymouth, and Messrs Lyell and Huia Bird, Whangarei; also one daughter, Miss Lorna Bird, Whangarei. The funeral will take place at Whangarei.

The death occurred, this morning, at Dobson, of Mr. Arthur James Riddiford, a native of Oxford, England, aged 77 years. Deceased, who had suffered a lengthy illness, had been

in New Zealand for 67 years, for 44 of which he resided at Blackball. For the past four years he had lived at Dobson with one of his daughters. He was a member of the first Greymouth Band. His wife predeceased him seven years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mesdames N. Gibson (Dobson), A. Whiting (Blackball), and J. Tiplady (Geraldine), one sister, Mrs. J. Sharpe (Christchurch), and one brother, Charles (Wairoa); also 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place at Karoro on Saturday.

The death occurred at Reefton, this morning, of Mr. Henry Albert Blackmun, of Marsden Road, Greymouth. Deceased, who had been ailing for the past three weeks, was a native of Gore, aged 52 years. He had been on the West Coast for many years and was employed in the sawmilling industry. He was a member of the Caledonian Society and was a Pipe Sergeant in the Greymouth Highland Pipe Band, of which he had been a member for five years. He served in the Great War. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Peggy and Ailsa, two brothers, William (Ngahere) and’ James (Winton), and seven sisters, Mesdames W. J. Spittle (Gore), Hood (Nightcaps), Travers (Melbourne), Mulhare (Wellingt©n), Adams (Wellington), Forbes (Tautapere), and McDiarmid (Ruatapu). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery on Saturday.
