BUTCHERS-WAITRESS STRIKE
__ SY^ EY ’ September 10. More than 1000 retail butchers and 400 waitresses were on strike in Sydney on Saturday. At a meeting the butchers decided by 1000 votes to two to defy the. Arbitration Court and their own union leaders by refusing to work on all Saturday morning's. The waitresses, who went on strike because their employers appealed against the recent increase in their award wages, have decided to continue to strike every Friday and Saturday until their demands are met The last fortnight is believed to have been Australia’s best coal producing period for five, years. Losses of coal during the week just ended have been under 8000 tons.
