HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, July 20. The Hokitika Borough Council met yesterday, the Mayor, Mr. A. R. Elcock presiding, the following members being present:—Crs. D. Pettigrew, H. C. Peart, J. Preston. S. G. Roberts, S. G. Havill, A. C. Armstrong and L. S. Ross.

It was resolved to ask residents that when they are making roadsidejawns, provision should be made for the water channels.

Treasurer’s statement: Receipts £796/5/4; expenditure £1356/13/4. Accounts ‘amounting to £1142/7/9 were passed for payment. The Foreman’s report was read and approved. The Sexton reported 14 interments for the month of June.

Abbatoirs report:—Stock slaughtered for month of June amounted to 36 cows. 27 heifers, 53 bullocks, 99 sheep, 12 pigs, 9 calves, condemned 1 pig. Fees collected for month amounted to £B9/19/3. Fees for corresponding month last year £94/9/11.

It was decided to instruct workmen not to remove trees lying across live electric wires and that Kanieri Electric Ltd be notified to this effect. The Sexton was authorised to peg

off the additional ground required ior Lho soldiers’ plot at the cemetery. it was decided to require that in all cases of subdivision of sections a satisfactory tracing be supplied to the Town Clerk for reference. It was resolved to write representa’t'ves of the churches and sporting bodies to meet the Council with a view to arriving at some basis of rating for the ensuing year. A petition submitted by north Revell Street residents in the vicinity of Tiidor Street to prevent carriers from re-moving sand off the beach, with the danger of encroachment. —Referred to the Works Committee for report, . .
