[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] At the weekly meeting of the Runanga Debating Society a debate was staged on the proposition “That the present system of price stabilisation is unfair to the ultimate consumer.” Affirmative: Messrs. A. Keown, H. Webb and F. Baxendale. Negative: Messrs. Robt. McTaggart, Ron. McTaggart and D. Williams. Mr. R. McDonald contributed a poem, “A Wish” by Matthew Arnold; Mr. R. Bowman a reading from “Society in Personality” by Einstein; Mr. R. Hyland a prepared speech on “The Post War World;” Mr. W. Patterson a reading from “Psychology for Everyman” by A. E. Mancler; and Mr. S. Braithwaite, a reading from “The Ideal Republic” by William J. Bryan. Criticisms were given by Mr. W. Wick, Leader of the Club.
