Final arrangements for the transport of the West Coast team to Westport on Saturday next were made at a meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union’s management committee last evening. R. Birchfield was appointed captain, J. Keating vicecaptain, and Mr A. R. Lindbom manager. The selectors will accompany the team. Mr Chisholm was appointed manager of the Greymouth third grade team to play Westland at Hokitika on Saturday. The team will assemble at the Railway Station at 12.30 p.m. A motion of condolence was passed with the relations of the late Lt. G. I>‘. Hart, who has died of wounds. It was decided that only fourth grade fixtures be played at Greymouth on Saturday, and they were arranged as' follow:—Tech A v. Celtic, Rugby Park, 1.30 p.m.; Tech. C v. Blakotown, Tech, ground, 2.30 p.m.
The Marlborough Rugby Union has decided to challenge Buller for the Seddon Shield and to suggest August 1!) a.: the date and August 12 as an alternative.
A.I.F/ TOUR OF N.Z
SYDNEY, June 11
An official announcement that an A.I.F. team has been invited to tour New Zealand as soon as practicable was made by the president of the New South Wales Rugby Union, Mr. Justice Herron, after yesterday’s A.1.F.-New South Wales game. The A.I.F. trounced the State side by 30 points to 19. The Army players cheered at Mr. Hen-ion’s announcement. The captain of the first A.I.F. team, Billy Watson, at present on Army leave, who has just returned from Now Zealand, spoke highly of the standard of Service football in New Zealand.
