ARMY DOG WINS-D.S.C.
NEW YORK, January 14. It has been officially announced that the Army dog, Chips, a tmee-year-old mixture of Alsatian, husny, and collie, born and raised in JNew York State, has been awarded the D.S.C. for heroism in action at the American landing in Sicily on July G 1943. x . o Chips is the first clog to receive such an award and was deco 1 , ated by Major-General Truscott ‘ somewhere in the Mediterranean” for courageous action in single-handedly e-im-mating a dangerous machine-gun nest and causing the surrender of the crew.” , Chip’s owner said that he had received a letter from Sicily saying that the dog also was responsible for tne capture of four Italian gunners, and had previously been awarded a Purple Heart for wounds and a Silvei Star for gallantry. - 2 _ ~ , Chips already has met President Roosevelt, Mr Churchill, Marshal Stalin, and General Eisenhower,
