NAVY LEAGUE AUXILIARY

GREYMOUTH SUB-BRANCH

The formation of a Greymouth Sub-Branch of the Canterbury Women’s Branch of the Navy League Auxiliary was decided upon at an enthusiastic meeting of about 50 women at the Borough Council Chambers, yesterday afternoon. The Mayoress "(Mrs. F. A. Kitchingham) presided over the gathering, which included a number of mothers of men serving in the Navy and Mercantile Marine. Addresses were delivered by Mrs. H. Wyatt and Miss M. Enwright, President and Vice-President, respectively, of the Canterbury Branch, who outlined the work performed, in Christchurch, mentioning' the care of men in hospital and sanatoria, entertainments, visiting, and knitting of comforts. They heartily welcomed the move to co-ordinate the efforts being made on the West Coast. Mrs. J. K. Abbie was. elected. President of the Sub-Branch. Mrs. W. J. Steer Secretary, and Mesdames W. F. Harley, S. Davis and C. Tucker were also appointed to the Committee. A decision will be made later as to the frequency of meetings. Mrs. Kitchingham mentioned that a knitting circle meets at Harker’s every second Thursday, and she invited anyone interested to attend, wool having been made available for knitting comforts.
