TURKISH EARTHQUAKE
LONDON, February 1. The Turkish town of Gerede was destroyed by an earthquake, says an Ankara message. Twenty-five thousand inhabitants were killed or injured. The earthquake lasted 50 seconds, and the tremors were felt throughout Turkey. BANGKOK FEARS NEW YORK, February 1. The Bangkok radio has urged the population to evacuate the city immediately. “Thailand no longer has a capital,” said the radio. “Many members of the Government have gone to places of safety. The enemy will not cease to raid Bangkok. On the contrary, the raids are likely to become heavier and more frequent.”
