A London cablegram announced the death has occurred as the result of a fall of Mr Harold Fraser-Simp-son, music composer. He was born in 1878.
Mr. C. H. Gledhill, a driver, and Ml’. H. H. Dawson, a fireman, attached to the locomotive staff of the Railways Department, Greymouth, have been temporarily transferred to Westport.

Mr. D. Simms, Yard Foreman, Railways Department, will retire on superannuation, on Saturday, on the completion of more than 40 yeai's’ service. Mr. Simms has been in Greymouth for over four years, having been transferred here from Wellington in December, 1939. He was acting-Passenger Foreman at Wellington before coming to Greymouth, and prior to that was running guard. Mr. J. Sloan, Foreman at Greymouth, will succeed Mr. Simms in the meantime.
A British Official Wireless message stated that, at Buckingham Palace, the King received General Eisenhower on his appointment as Supreme Allied Commander of me British and United States Forces for the liberation of Europe. Air Marshal Mallory was also received on his appointment as Air Commander-m-Chief in the West. Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder has assumed his duties as Deputy Supreme Commander of the ?«llied Expeditionary Force.
