COMMUNISTS UNTRUSTWORTHY

LONDON, January 18. Asked in the Commons whether the- authorities would accredit a war correspondent on behalf of the “Daily Worker,” Sir J. Grigg stated that in view of the paramount importance Jo f security measures m connection with military operations, the Government was not prepared to accord special facilities to this newspaper, which was a propagandist medium for the British Communist Party. “Recent experience made it clear that members or adherents of the Communist Party cannot be trusted not to communicate secret information io the Communist Party.”

LONDON, January 19. The “Daily Worker” has_a leading article replying to Sir J. Grigg’s statement m the House of Commons. Tt said; “We claim no ‘special facilities.' We demand rights as. a national newspaper, .and will fight on until rights are' won. On the question of trust, we would point out that a. Communist member of the House of Commons, Mr Gallacher, attends all Parliamentary secret .sessions, and no one, not even Sir J. Grigg, would dare Io suggest that Mi’ Gallacher violates the confidence reposed in members.”
