Mr. A- E. Davenport left, this morning, for Auckland.

Messrs E. E. James, L. S. Payne and J. Stenhouse left, to-day, on return to Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Brabin left, this afternoon, for Nelson, on return to Wellington.

Mr. R. Semple (Minister of Works) visited Grevmouth last evening, and left, this morning, on return to Christchurch.

Messrs D. S. Kennedy and J. E. A. McKeefry have recently been added to the officer strength of the Greymouth Squadron of the Air Training Corps, with the rank of Pilot Officer.

The engagement is announced of Jessima Edna, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Holt, Greymouth, to Roy, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Smith, Papanui, Christchurch.

The death occurred suddenly at her home, this morning, of Mrs.. Emmiline Cameron, the wife of Mr. Hurtyl Cameron, of Reefton. Aged 40, deceased was a native of the West Coast and is survived by her husband and one son.

The Minister for Defence (Mr. Jones) has been advised by the Admiralty that the King has approved mention in despatches of Temporary Acting-Lieut. John Watson Tattersfield, R.N.Z.N.V.R., for good service in the attack on Salerno. Lt. Tattersfield was born in. 1916, entered the Navy in 1940 as ordinary seaman, and was commissioned in 1942. His father is Mr. James W. Tattersfield of Auckland. —P.A.

Mr. D. A. Gibb, of Wellington, has been appointed Mechanical Engineer to the Greymouth Harbour Board from six applications, in succession to Mr. J. Leitch, who recently resigned, the appointment being' made at a meeting of the Board last evening. Mr. Gibb was formerly second engineer on the Board’s dredge for two years and a-half, and left Greymouth in 1939. Mr. K. Paterson, of Greymouth, has been appointed engineering cadet on the staff of the Board from three applications.

The death occurred at Greymouth, last evening, of Mr. Arthur Kinsey, a native of Northumberland, aged 63 years. Deceased had resided at Dunollie for the bast 31 years and worked in the State mine for 25 years. He had been a Druid for 25 years, as a member of Seddon Lodge, Runanga. Many years ago he represented the West Coast against Australia at Soccer. He is survived by his wife ancj one son, George (Cobden).

Mr. H. O. Houchen, who has been Chief Engineer of Tasman Empire Airways, Limited, since the inception of its service, has resigned to take up an important position with the British Overseas Airways Corporation in England. His successor will be Wing Commander G. B. Bolt, who is well-known in New Zealand aviation circles. The Board of Tasman Airways has expressed to Mr. Houchen its appreciation of valuable services which he has rendered during his term with the company.—P.A.
