GERMAN SECRET WEAPON
■'AMAZING FRIGHTFULNESS’
(Rec. 11.50) LONDON, Nov. 17. German threats of using a secret weapon against England form a subject which is causing mild interest and speculation. Nazi propagandists have recently been pouring out blood curdling stories about the secret weapons they intend to use. It seems they promise firstly, a radio-controlled bomb claimed to be 100 per cent, accurate to a range of five miles; secondly, new rocket projectile which, when fired from the French coast will .be certain to hit the immense target of Greater London; thirdly, a rocket projected bomb that causes “amazing frightfulness.” Apparently the Nazi propagandists at present plump for the French coast rocket.
The Berlin correspondent of a newspaper in Madrid states: There is scarcely a German who does not take it for granted that the skies will soon be ploughed by thousands of stratosphere rockets.” The “Daily Telegraph,” discussing the says: “Of course there is nothing inherently impossible in such a bombardment. During this war weapons of the rocket type have been developed to a great extent and it is quite possible that Hitler’s technicians are trying to develop a very large longrange rocket in the emplacements built along the French coast. The technical difficulties that have been overcome will be enormous and the rocket, if ever they did produce it, would be a most inaccurate weapon suitable only for bombardment of large areas and targets such as London. The opinion is expressed none the less that theoretically it is a possibility, but hardly likely to be on any considerable scale.
